WHAT STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN WHEN MICROSFT WORD HAS STOPPED WORKING

 Microsoft Word is perhaps the most famous word processor on the market. Despite years of development and widespread use, the term program does not necessarily run smoothly. Often, Word hangs at startup or won't open the document. Usually, the problem is not with Word, but with the installation of add-ins, macros, or an antivirus program. Damaged templates or forms can also prevent the program from responding at startup.

This simple trick often solves the problem:

Instead of opening Word by double-clicking the record, click the program icon. Usually, after that, you can open Word normally by double-clicking the form.

Missing app updates are another common source of the problem. Occasionally, Microsoft Word not responding or does not start when the latest updates have not yet been installed, and newer macros or parts of Windows are used.

Here's how to get automatic updates:

In the Windows 10 Settings program, select "Update & Security", then "Windows Update" and click "Advanced Options" at the bottom of the screen.

In another window, enable the "Get updates for other Microsoft products after Windows upgrade" option. It follows that Windows Update will automatically search for updates for Word and other Office components and install them from the desktop in conjunction with Windows security updates.

Start Word in Safe Mode

It is possible to start Word in safe mode, just like you are having trouble starting Windows.

Hold down the Ctrl key while double-clicking the Word icon to start the program. Then Word starts in Safe Mode.

Alternatively, you can use the "/ secure" control to start Word. To do this, use the keyboard shortcut Windows Logo Key + R and type "winword / protected".

Safe Mode helps when another Microsoft Office program, such as Excel, stops responding.

Microsoft includes a built-in Office repair tool that you can use to fix several problems that cause Office programs such as Word to stop responding.

This repair feature is found in Windows 10's settings under "Programs".

Search in the list "Microsoft Office" and click "Modify".

In another dialogue, you can decide to add or remove additional attributes or repair the entire Office suite. If the repair is successful, you'll usually be able to run Word without problems.

There's also an automatic file recovery feature that unlocks if your files weren't saved the last time you quit Word. The next time you start Word, it will try to recover unsaved Word files automatically.

Hide Word Add-ins

When Word runs in safe mode but doesn't start correctly other times, the problem is usually caused by a pre-configured add-in.

Click "Options" in the "Document" tab of the ribbon.

In another dialogue, select the "Add-ons" section in the sidebar.

From the "Handle" drop-down menu at the bottom of the dialogue box, select "COM Add-Ins" and click "Continue".

Clear the checkboxes for multiple COM add-ins from the list to start Word without potentially debatable add-ins. Regardless of whether an unknowing add-in was causing Word to stop working, the program should now run without problems.

In this dialogue, you can re-enable individual word supplements to find a release supplement. If possible, configure a new variant of the rogue add-on. Otherwise, eliminate it or leave it dormant until the seller delivers the upgrade.

Word applies the Normal. Dot template to all new files. This template includes default designs, custom ribbons, and other configurations. A bug in this template may cause Word to stop working.

The first word. For example, you can rename it to "_Normal. dotm".

When you restart Word, a new default template will be generated automatically.

Like most Microsoft Office programs, Word accesses data from the installed default printer to match the appearance of the files on the display as closely as possible in the print project. If the default driver does not work or the default printer is not connected, Word may not start.

From Windows 10 setup, go to "Devices" then "Printers & Scanners" and set a working printer as default. Select "Microsoft Printing to PDF" pre-installed as an example.

Restart. The problem should now be resolved if triggered by the printer setup.

Problems with antivirus software

Third-party antivirus software can cause Word to hang when it starts, or block it from opening in any way. Some antivirus programs do not correctly recognize Word macros or even add-ins and stop them. Often the error message isn't even displayed when this is the case.

Examine your antivirus scan log to find out if an add-on has been blocked.

If you can't find anything in the log, try starting Word with your antivirus software turned off. If this solves the problem, the antivirus program was probably causing it.

Visit your antivirus software preferences and try to exclude Word and other Microsoft Office components in addition to any add-ins you want to use. If you are using Microsoft Defender antivirus included with Windows 10, unlike antivirus programs, you will have no problems opening Word and other Microsoft software.
